A Tribute to Dione/Sanji Hills
We had the privilege to work with Dione on a number of projects. She was an avid supporter of and contributor to the Glaston Centre research. We miss her deeply and have huge gratitude for all she did in the world - and for Glastonbury. She was a remarkable women and we were privileged to know her. This Guardian obituary pays tribute to her life. |
"Spiritual and alternative businesses can often be overlooked when it comes to their economic contribution. Often small scale, with a very select clientele or customer base, they may be dismissed as marginal or irrelevant to the mainstream economy. However, this study of such organisations and businesses in Glastonbury indicates that such businesses could potentially play a useful role in post Covid-19 recovery." Proposal for Glastonbury Business Research and Support Centre
The first stage of research into the contribution that alternative organisations and businesses make to the Glastonbury economic and cultural life is now complete, indicating some of the successes – and challenges – of setting up and running an organisation in Glastonbury, and what kind of support might help these to flourish.
This initial research is now being followed by two pieces of work – an economic analysis of the contribution of alternative businesses make to the Glastonbury economy, and the development of idea for a business research and support centre. Such a centre would help to generate knowledge and information about the town and its unusual economy, and provide a resource for academics wishing to undertake research in the area. More centrally, it would also provide support to individuals – and groups – seeking to establish and develop local businesses and organisations. While of value for anyone setting up a business in the town, the main target audience would be those seeking to establish an organisation or business with a charitable, spiritual or environmental focus.
The report on this first stage of research, and the proposal for the business research and support centre are available below.
