BUILDING BRIDGES

Alongside the Glastonbury Unity Candle, we have worked tirelessly encouraging mutual understanding, respect and cooperation. Working under the ethos of Unity through Diversity  we have developed several events across the town with the aim of bringing people together, encouraging positive dialogue and building community strength.

  • The Glastonbury Unity Candle and the Silent Minute for Peace. A live-stream at 9pm every evening. Find out more.
  • Working with Mendip District Council and Glastonbury Town Council to create a 'Virtual Summer Solstice' during the 2020 'lock-down'.
  • Developing and promoting the 'Avalon Anthem'
  • Developing a mentoring programme supporting new business and community ideas
  • Working with Glastonbury Town Council and Glastonbury Tourist Information to create Glastonbury Information Centre
  • Welcoming and supporting pilgrims of all faiths and beliefs and offering spiritual support
  • Arranging the nurturing of scions of the Glastonbury Holy Thorn for future planting in the town
  • Initiating the installation of the Glastonbury Peace Pole
  • On-going dialogue and networking between different faith and civic organisations
  • Glastonbury 2012  - an event celebrating the many faiths & paths in Glastonbury

Unity through Diversity  is an expression which has been in use for thousands of years and in essence, can be seen to imply the working together of all aspects of a community without losing the special personality and beliefs of the individual projects and people involved.

We acknowledge that diverse beliefs and practices can present complex and difficult challenges creating chasms that often-times are difficult to bridge. However, rather than focus on the discordant differences, our goals are to create ‘living spaces’ where acceptance, understanding and co-existence can be found, demonstrating how together, we can live well, whilst remaining different.
