Bath and West Community Energy
A not-for-profit community benefit society, owned and run by our members for the benefit of the community.
'Our vision is for a local area able to supply decreasing local energy demand with increasing generation from renewable energy,
driven by collective action and community ownership. Our focus has been on developing clean local energy, community-owned
for the common good. Since 2010, the organisation has played a pioneering role in the development of community-owned renewable energy, and now has assets worth £16.5 million, with 12.35 Megawatts of mainly solar PV generating capacity. This is enough capacity to meet the equivalent annual electricity demand from around 4,000 homes.'

Centre for Sustainable Energy
Bristol -an independent national charity that was initiated in 1979.Their vision is a world where sustainability is second nature, carbon emissions have been cut to safe levels and fuel poverty has been replaced by energy justice. Mission is to share our knowledge and practical experience to empower people to change the way they think and act about energy. We do this by giving advice, managing innovative energy projects, training and supporting others to act, and undertaking research and policy analysis. Resources

Low Carbon Housing
Low Carbon Homes brings global domestic energy efficiency innovation to the UK’s regions via a nationwide event series – the Low Carbon Homes Forum. Low Carbon Homes wants to drive the adoption of new energy saving standards by providing a unique platform. Here, professionals can share best practice and discover pioneering methodologies and products to help transform home efficiency, reduce fuel poverty and lower carbon emissions.

Low-Impact Living Initiative
A non-profit organisation aiming to help people reduce their impact on the environment, improve their quality of life, gain new skills, live healthier, have fun and save money.

Passivhaus
Passivhaus is an entirely voluntary building performance standard that anyone setting out to build a low-energy home might be interested in. It’s gaining lots of attention in the UK and is based around the principle of reducing heating demand to a very low level rather than relying on renewables. The standards far exceed those of the current Building Regulations, and it is popular because there are many different ways to meet the criteria. Designers use a software package to predict the home’s future energy demand.

The Firewood Rhyme

Logs to Burn, logs to burn, logs to burn,
Logs to save the coal a turn,
Here's a word to make you wise,
When you hear the woodman's cries.
Never heed his usual tale,
That he has good logs for sale,
But read these lines and really learn
The proper kind of logs to burn.

Oak logs will warm you well,
If they're old and dry.
Larch logs of pine will smell,
But the sparks will fly.
Beech logs for Christmas time,
Yew logs will heat well.
"Scotch" logs it is a crime,
For anyone to sell.
Birch logs will burn too fast,
Chestnut scarce at all.
Hawthorn logs are good to last,
If you cut them in the fall.
Holly logs will burn like wax,
You should burn them green,
Elm logs like smouldering flax,
No flame to be seen.
Pear logs and apple logs,
They will scent your room,
Cherry logs across the dogs,
Smell like flowers in bloom.

But ash logs, all smooth and grey,
Burn them green or old;
Buy up all that come your way,
They're worth their weight in gold.
